A general surgeon for Koramangala
Dr. Sanjit, a General and Minimal Access (Laparoscopic) Surgeon, consults on Sarjapur Main Road, about 11 km from Koramangala. He does not have a clinic in Koramangala; patients travel to him because it is one straight road and usually around 30 minutes away.
Patients come from Koramangala 1st to 8th Block, Ejipura, ST Bed Layout, Jakkasandra and Madiwala. Many are adult children bringing a parent, and the consultation is unhurried enough for the whole family to ask their questions.
Getting there from Koramangala
Sarjapur Road starts on the Koramangala side. Head out along it, past the Agara and Ibblur junction with the Outer Ring Road, and continue towards Doddakannelli. Office hours and rain can slow this stretch, so leave a little early.
If you are coming for a procedure, arrange for someone to drive you home. After a general anaesthetic or sedation you should not drive for at least 24 hours, and usually for longer after abdominal surgery.
- Evening, 5 pm to 8 pm: the clinic in Doddakannelli, 3rd Floor, SGR-2, Sarjapur Main Road, Doddakannelli, Bengaluru 560035. You reach this first.
- Day, 10 am to 5 pm: SPARSH Hospital, Sarjapur Road, #76, SY No. 26/7, Sarjapur Main Road, Carmelaram, Bengaluru 560035, a few kilometres further on.
What patients from Koramangala see him for
- Groin and belly-button hernias, which are usually repaired through small keyhole cuts. See hernia surgery.
- Hernias after an earlier operation, such as a bulge through an old caesarean or abdominal scar, or a hernia that has come back after a previous repair. Read about incisional and ventral hernia surgery and recurrent hernia surgery.
- Gallbladder stones, sometimes in older parents who have had repeated attacks of pain. See gallbladder stone surgery.
- Piles, fissure and fistula, where laser treatment is an option for many patients.
- Varicose veins, lumps such as lipomas and sebaceous cysts, and hydrocele.
If a parent has diabetes, a hernia or gallbladder problem is safer to deal with in a planned way, when sugars are well controlled, than as an emergency in the middle of the night.
Bringing an older parent
Surgery in an older parent needs a little more planning. Heart, lung, kidney and diabetes control all matter for anaesthesia, so Dr. Sanjit looks at the whole picture, not just the hernia or the gallbladder. Where needed, a physician or cardiologist's opinion is taken before surgery.
Bring every report and the full list of medicines, especially blood thinners such as aspirin or clopidogrel, which may need to be paused under medical advice. Do not stop any medicine on your own before speaking to the doctors.
On the day of surgery an attendant usually stays with the patient. Ask the hospital about its attendant policy and what to pack for the stay.
The first visit and the weeks after
The first visit is an unhurried conversation. Dr. Sanjit listens to the history, examines the patient and goes through the scan in plain words, often with a quick sketch. When a parent is the patient, he makes sure both the parent and the family understand what is planned.
He sets out each option with its pros and cons, including waiting and watching where that is safe. If surgery is advised, he explains the approach, the likely hospital stay and what help will be needed at home in the first week.
After the operation, the family gets a written recovery plan covering wound care, diet, walking, medicines and when to come back. Review visits can be booked in the evening at Doddakannelli, and patients keep a direct line for questions while they heal.
